Introduce Yourself

We're about to get started with this challege of praying for our sons.  I like to know a little bit about the people I'm praying for and with, so I thought an introduction was in order.  Please leave yours in the comments section.  We are currently a VERY small group that will grow to the exact size that God wants it to be.  That's His problem, not mine :)

I have been married for 17 years.  We have three children.  M is 12.  He is a typical first-born, leader type.  He just finished 7th grade.  Middle school is an interesting time.  His biggest struggle is with perfection.  He is also starting to struggle with typical middle school, growing up kinds of things.  He has a HUGE heart and the spiritual gift of service.  He works with our church's technical ministry team and stays VERY busy.  He is only 12, but is way beyond that age in maturity (at least most of the time).  K is 10.  He is very into sports of pretty much any kind.  His biggest struggles are keeping his emotions under control.  He feels things deeply and shows emotion openly.  That is both is biggest strenght and his biggest weekness.  He is the child that can always make you smile just by being in the room.  D is 7.  She is the princess around here.  She enjoys gymnastics, high heels, and nurf guns--often at the same time.  Obviously, she is a girl and not neccessarily part of this challenge, but I will be praying for her too and for her future husband.  She was diagnosed with leukemia in January of this year.  She is in the middle of "front-line treatment" for this horrid cancer.  We spend much of our time in doctor's offices and the hospital.  Leukemia has affected our entire family.

I'm so excited to get started with you guys!!!!  And for the rest of you, I will blog about other things as the Lord gives them to me and I have the time to get it posted.

Much love to you all..........don't forget to introduce yourselves.

  1. I am Michelle. Allen and I have 22 month old boys. I've been leaning on lots of others for prayer for a while. I love God and know He is carrying me through these dark times. Looking forward to brighter days. C has leukemia like Amy's D. E was born with some neuromuscular issues that are causing developmental delays. Both are happy sweet boys, but all we've been through isn't what I expected parenthood to be like. Looking forward to praying for my boys and in agreement with the group!

  2. I am Kim and I am a wife to Pat and a homeschool mom of 5 elementary aged children, 3 of which are boys. J is my 2nd oldest and he is 10. He is very passionate and sensitive. He loves team sports and fishing and camping. D and N are 6 year old twins. They were internationally adopted and have their own unique and inspiring story. D is vivacious and happy and loves school. N is sensitive and loving and loves hugs. The twins are extremely close to each other.

I look forward to sharing in this awesome opportunity to ask for God's blessing and power for my sons and son-in-laws. Thank you, Amy, for organizing it.

  3. Hi, I'm MaryEllen. C and I have been married for 17 years this August. We have two boys ages 9, (almost 10) and 7. N ,age 9, is a Lego brick master, lizard lover, avid reader, and a continuous talker. If he has a thought, he says it! His talking gets him in a lot of trouble, especially at school. He is a deep thinker and moody at times. He asks lots of questions sometimes at seemingly inopportune times. His brother is about as opposite as the day is long. J, age 7, is a sweet, happy go lucky, cat loving, quiet, little boy. J has significant developmental delays, a speech disorder, and sensory processing issues. We suspect autism and are persuing that diagnosis with appointments this summer. I'm seeking Godly guidance in raising these two unique boys. I love them dearly, but sometimes I just throw up my hands and say "Lord, what do I do now?" "I'm asking You because I haven't a clue"!

  4. Hello, I am Meggen. I have been married for 6 1/2 years and at this very moment am finishing up my last week of teaching 3rd grade in the public school system. I am transitioning to staying at home and embarking on the idea of homeschooling. I am a mother of 2 young children; a 4 year old boy and 1 year old girl. I yearn for the love of God to saturate their hearts and look forward to praying the Word over both my son and the unknown future husband of my daughter.

From the introductions already made, it is obvious that God has pulled this group together with purpose. I can't wait.

  5. Hi Amy! We go to the same church, and I'm in your old "new" Sunday School class, but we haven't met yet! I have a 14 year old son, Scott. Hard to believe he's starting high school in August! He loves baseball, has played since he was 4. He just starting training for the HS cross country team and loves it. I'm 48 and have been widowed almost 9 years. I teach 5th grade math at Chapman. Thanks for posting this on facebook! I'm going to get the book downloaded and I'm excited to get started!
P.S. -- downloaded book, read the first few chapters already! Love it.

  6. Hi, my name is Terri. I have been married to my sweet husband for 11 years and we have 3 precious children. A is 6 and will be starting 1st grade in the fall. He is stubborn yet tender so he challenges me every day to learn to be firm but tender. It will be our first official year to home school so we will see how we do ;). D is 4 and he is my compassionate peace-maker. C is our only girl and she is ready to mix it up with the boys.

I have to agree with Meggan, I cannot wait to see how the Lord uses this group over the next 21 days.

Amy, thanks for being sensitive to the Lord's prompting.

  7. Hello, all! What a blessing to know we are in this together... God is so good, all the time!

I am J, married to B for almost 21 years (yikes!). We have two boys... actually one man-boy, almost 19 (RW), and a six year old (J) who was and is a special surprise gift from God.

We are in an unusual place right now, where we thought we were ready (if there is such a thing) to send our oldest off to college, assured of his firm foundation of faith. However, it has become clear to us that he is still very vulnerable and a ideal target for Satan, so we are blanketing him with prayer, as well as all his friends we have known since they were little boys having water balloon fights and Nerf wars.

Our younger adopted son has FASD, and we are learning as we go. We are seeing a psychologist to help us with his particular developmental and behavioral issues, and could not do this at all without the strength of the Holy Spirit... especially in our "advanced age."

I need to ask a question, however... I ordered what I thought was a "book." Is it only a download? I am so NOT computer savvy, and really want to get started. Anybody got any ideas or advice??

  8. Hi Amy, I'm Tina, wife to Derek, and mother of six and one son-in-law. Next week, I will celebrate twenty-five years of marriage to my high school sweetheart. My oldest is twenty-three and my youngest is seven. I've had a long road already and a long journey ahead in parenting. Raising sons is a blessing and a challenge. My prayer for them is that they will love God with all their hearts, minds and souls.

Thanks, Amy. Praying for you daily along with little D.

  9. Welcome to you guys, Michelle, Tina, Kim, Judi, MaryEllen, Meggen, Jennifer, Terri, and JP. I am so glad you are here!!!

JP, the book is an ebook, so it is download only. It will save on your computer as a pdf file. I'm not tech savvy at all and my 12 year old is out of town, so somebody please chime in with something more helpful than that :)
